The footer contains 45 links for internal pages. If we remove most of the links (most likely the product page links that are also in the main navigation), how will it affect SEO? …

What are your suggestions to improve your results for “X nearby” or “X near me” searches? “X.” can be whatever unless it matters….

Suzy: I had good results by including ‘near me’ on the URL of a geo-target optimized (on-page SEO) page. Domain/service/near-me…

3. Virtual silos and internal links

Summary:
When creating virtual silos, do you only internal link with the silo in mind, or do you internal link with the silo and internal link other pages that may make sense/mentioned?

Kyle: Not every page that you link to the target page needs to be part of a silo. If it makes sense to link it, link to it.…

4. Mobile SERP with row of pictures

Mobile SERP is showing a row of pictures in result (products). Where can I learn more about this?

Chart clearly shows what could be a STRONG ranking factor, but Pearson shows -0.6, Spearman -0.2 and Kendall -0.1. So are Spearman’s and Pearson’s skewing the results?

Jo: IMO you shouldn’t trust anything without a larger sample size. You should be wary of outliers too….

Members: Kyle Mcfarlane and Kyle Roof
Topic: General SEO

Summary:
Reorganizing some of the content on my site and was wondering if a supporting article can be part of two silos?

Kyle : Opinions vary but if I’m looking at a page that is good to link to multiple pages I don’t consider it a silo page, I consider it a hub page. Hub pages are great because they can be used to distribute juice to multiple pages…

Summary:
Classified ads site on with listing pages that get removed. What’s the best way to handle this?

Todd: 301 will be your best bet… it’s best practice to generally avoid the 404’s if you can…

About the author

Kyle is best known for revealing the “secret” hidden in plain sight: Google’s algorithm is an algorithm. In other words, it all comes down to one thing - Math. Kyle demonstrated this by ranking number one in Google with a page consisting of gibberish text and only a handful of target keywords. Google actually punished him for exposing their algorithm by de-indexing 20 of his test sites and creating a rule in an attempt to de-value his efforts. Kyle has spent the past several years running more than 400 scientific SEO tests to better understand Google's algo. The combined results of those tests became the backbone of the popular SEO tool, PageOptimizer Pro, and they are implemented within his SEO agency on client sites. Kyle also shares his techniques in podcasts, at conferences around the world, and within the platform he co-founded, IMG, a sort of Netflix for SEOs with an active community aspect.
